The reason this means so much to me is because I had to go through my own journey. I couldn’t show up for my business with the excitement I’d previously had, because I felt stressed about not booking consistent clients. So I worked more and more sacrificing my freedom. Which lead me to almost crippling imposter syndrome. All I could do was consume more information, but not act.
Luckily I’ve got my positivity to fall back on, so I made a change.
I stopped looking at other people to validate my business. I embraced my own unique quirky self, using it throughout my design style, and messaging.
And it changed things.
Clients started coming to me. Their reason being the uniqueness I offer. That’s how Drowned In Beauty started, I took this very less than ideal period in my business which is the negative aspect of drowning, but came out on the other side with so much confidence in myself, and that is beautiful.
When I’m not trying to convince myself that I’m actually not a crazy cat lady, while talking to my cats, or impersonating my cats… ahh painful self-realizations just there.
Anyway… I’m working on traveling more. After 3 years in Cambodia it’s time for a change, and not knowing where that will be is even more exciting. Any suggestions?
I'm all about people, so I'm in training to be a social worker in order to help women of domestic abuse, as well as being a trained coach
...but you know, that imposter syndrome I was talking about earlier, kinda stopped me going fully in on that. However it works really well with the web design experience, as you get some of that coaching when working with me.
Isn't this what we all strive for when working for ourselves?
The freedom to build a life on our own terms. To be wherever we want to be in the world. Doing something that lights our souls on fire.
The freedom to be happy.
I believe in this for my own life, and I want to contribute to that with each person I work with too.
I feel like I'm quoting Moulin Rouge now, but old Baz had an excellent point!
I love that there's beauty in everything, and each persons perception of that is different.
For me, I NEED to be surrounded by beauty, whether that be artwork hung up, plants everywhere, even my phone is aesthetically pleasing - seriously, it's a treat for my eyeballs every time i look at it!
But most importantly in my design work - this always needs to be beautiful.
Connections are the heart of my business.
I believe passionately in building strong connections with everyone I work with, in order for me to create a true representation of their brand.
In doing so, when we start with a genuine connection, you can then make genuine connections with your dream clients too.
Which is why it's so important to me.
I love noticing little quirks in people that are really unique to them.
It's the same when it comes to design - celebrating someone's quirks to represent their branding and web design. Which results in something completely unique.
This is how you stand out, and find your tribe that's obsessed with your style.
Remember, nice is bland, quirky is rememberable.
